After winning two games on Friday night to open the Courtyard Marriott Tournament, in Norman, Oklahoma looked to continue its streak on Saturday when they hosted North Texas who was riding a five-game winning streak of their own.
The Sooners got off to a great start with Jocelyn Alo and Kinzie Hansen reaching base on back-to-back singles. Alo scored on a double steal, when the throw to third ended up in left field, for the first run of the game. Hansen would come home on a Lynnsie Elam single to center field to make it a 2-0 score at the end of the first.
UNT got one back in the top of the second when a bunt single scored Kourtney Williams. Then in the third they went on top 3-2 thanks to a 2-run homer by Hanna Rebar.
After leaving a total of six runners stranded through the second and third innings, Oklahoma finally brought Grace Lyons home on a single up the middle from Grace Green in the bottom of the fourth.
The score remained gridlocked until the top of the sixth when Tayla Evans scored on a sacrifice from Kenzie Young to put the Mean Green back in front 4-3.
That would be all North Texas needed as the Sooners would leave a total of nine runners on base in an game where they just couldn’t get over the hump.
