There’s no doubt that Oklahoma Football fans wanted Landry Jones and the XFL Sooners to succeed in Dallas. Unfortunately it looks like the season may have come to an early end for Jones who suffered a terrible looking knee injury late in a pivotal game against the Houston Roughnecks.
With a share of first place in the division on the line, Dallas was driving for a potentially game-winning score against the undefeated Roughnecks when the injury occurred. Houston ultimately intercepted backup quarterback Philip Nelson at the goal line to preserve the 27-20 win and remain the only undefeated team in the league.
It wasn’t a particularly good day for Jones on the field in the first place. The former Oklahoma signal caller threw three first quarter interceptions and then fumbled on a sack in the fourth.
Jones had been struggling with a left knee injury that he suffered in the preseason. It cost him the opportunity for him to play in the opener but the Renegades were 2-0 since he returned to the lineup. While that last thing we would want to do is speculate on the severity of an injury, the reaction of Jones and his teammates on the sideline seemed to indicate that it’ll be a while before he’s back under center.
