North Texas shocked #5 Oklahoma in Saturday’s first game of the Courtyard Merriott Tournament. That set up an immediate rematch between the Sooners and Mean Green with OU having a bit of a grudge.
Three UNT home runs in the top of the first set OU at a 4-0 deficit and started some scuttlebutt about the Sooners losing two games in a row at their own tournament.
Jocelyn Alo hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third and then Kinzie Hansen launched a solo shot to ease the minds a bit of the sold out crowd.
The Mean Green launched fourth home run of the game in the top of the fourth but Oklahoma responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a comfortable 9-5 lead. The Sooners outscored UNT 4-1 in the fifth, thanks to a grand slam from Hansen, to turn that comfortable lead into a commanding one.
The squads exchanged two runs each in the sixth to get us to a final score of 15-8. OU’s came on 17 hits and UNT’s came on 10 with the two combining for nine home runs.
Alo went 4-for-5 from the plate with 4 RBI and Hansen was 3-for-3 with 5 RBI.
Senior pitcher Shannon Saile ended up with the win after pitching five innings of relief. She gave up four runs and fanned seven batters in the process.
Oklahoma will play for the tournament championship on Sunday afternoon.
