Sports Illustrated is looking back on ten years of data to determine the top universities at producing talent at eight different positions. Up first is the quarterback position and Oklahoma fans are going to be pleased with the results.

1. Oklahoma, 28 points
2. Florida State, 20
3(tie). Auburn, 17
3(tie). Louisville, 17
5(tie). Texas A&M, 14
5(tie). USC, 14
7(tie). Baylor, 12
7(tie). N.C. State, 12
7(tie). Texas Tech, 12
10(tie). Missouri, 11
10(tie). Oklahoma State, 11
10(tie). Stanford, 11

Sports Illustrated Quarterback U rankings

The rise of Lincoln Riley has certainly elevated the profile of the quarterback position at the University of Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray going number one overall in back-to-back NFL drafts (not to mention winning Heisman Trophies) has put a spotlight on the position that is attracting talent on all levels. Jalen Hurts became the highest profile graduate transfer in the history of college football when he left Alabama to finish his collegiate career in Norman. Spencer Rattler was the number one pro-style quarterback prospect in the nation when he arrived on campus as a member of the 2019 recruiting class, and the Sooners seem to be heavy favorites to land the top signal caller in the 2021 class as well.

With three No. 1 overall picks (Sam Bradford in 2010, Baker Mayfield in ’18 and Kyler Murray in ’19), no program comes close to the Sooners. Even if Texas Tech transfers Baker Mayfield and Davis Webb had their achievements, along with Patrick Mahomes’s, count toward the Red Raiders’ score, it wouldn’t be enough to pull them even with Oklahoma.

  1. This Sooner fan appreciated how good Jalen Hurts was.😤 And now that it’s time for him to be in the NFL, I hope he will be a first-round pick. He deserves to be. And, wherever he goes, he needs to be the starter❣🏈
