Former Oklahoma guard Jamal Bieniemy several heads to turn across Sooner Nation last week when he announced that he has was entering the transfer portal. Now we may know the rest of the story.
On Monday it was announced that guard Umoja Gibson had joined the Sooners as a transfer from North Texas. Oklahoma fans may remember Gibson for the 21 points he posted against the Sooners last season as a redshirt sophomore.
Starting all 31 last season, Gibson averaged 14.5 points per game while hitting 41.2-percent of his shots from the field while helping the Mean Green to its first regular season conference championship in 31 years.. He’ll also give Lon Kruger another option from long-range. Gibson averaged 39.4 percent from beyond the arch while leading UNT with 86 three-point attempts made.
The Sooners are hoping that the NCAA makes the decision to grant Gibson with a one-time transfer waver. If so, he’ll be on the floor next season, with two years of eligibility. Should the NCAA decide not to allow it then Oklahoma fans will have to wait to see his debut.
