Wherever Caleb Williams chooses to play college football he won’t be arriving on campus alone. We know this because he’s already laid out his plans on the matter. The question, outside of which university, has been who. We may have an idea now thanks to some late night twitter shenanigans.
Just after his extended visit to Oklahoma the 5-star quarterback narrowed his college choices down to five. At that time, according to his blog post for Sports Illustrated, he began to pursuing other athletes who may be interested in making a college football run with him. It looks like he may have found two so far.
Williams, Christian Leary and Mario Williams all tweeted an image of a hot dog nearly simultaneously on Wednesday night. Leary is a 5-9/180, 4-star receiver out of Edgewater, Florida. Mario Williams is a 5-10/165, 4-star receiver out of Plant City, Florida.
I don’t think there’s some sort of message to decode with the hot dog tweets though. I think its just high school kids being high school kids and having fun because they know people like me will wonder what it’s all about. However, it does show that the three are not only communicating with one another but also bonding.
The reason for excitement as an Oklahoma fan is that Mario Williams was specifically mentioned in Caleb Williams’ blog post as a guy that he’d like to play college ball with. Mario Williams also seems to be a lock to land at the University of Oklahoma…which could indicate the nation’s top quarterback prospect is coming with him.
We saw Spencer Rattler do this as well. He arrived on campus having already formed a bond with a talented group of receivers that we coming in with him. Rattler played a key role in getting that group together and committed to the Sooners. The hope is that we’re seeing the same thing develop with Caleb Williams after Rattler planted the idea in his head during last month’s campus visit.
