Although much of the attention remains on the 2021 recruiting class, the Oklahoma Sooners are looking beyond the current cycle with the most recent offers. On Friday, the program connected with two prospects on the defensive side of the ball. The conversation ultimately led the duo to social media where official scholarship offers were announced.
Blessed & Honored to receive an offer from @OU_Football @LincolnRiley @CoachRoyM @4thQtMentality @AHSWRECKINRAMS @FbIberia @therealkwat @bartonsimmons @samspiegs @ChadSimmons_ @SWiltfong247 #BoomerSooner 🔴⚪️ pic.twitter.com/Xun9NYXLo1— Laterrance Welch (@LtK1ng) April 17, 2020
The first of the pair is Laterrence Welch out of Louisiana. Standing 6-1 at the cornerback position for the 2022 recruiting period, the high school junior recorded five interception during the most recent campaign. As Alex Grinch scours the nation for top tier defensive talent, Welch’s name surfaced. Adding size and depth at the position is never a bad idea either.
Joining in on the fun, Marquise Killebrew also received an offer at the same position. At 6-0, the budding star received a 4-star ranking from 247Sports. Sitting at No. 64 overall at the moment, the cornerback could easily improve the ranking over the course of the next couple of years. Out of Georgia, the Sooners are looking to drastically improve the depth on the defensive side of the ball by dipping into SEC territory.
