Plant City, Florida receiver Mario Williams has been on Oklahoma’s radar for quite a while now. The 5-10/165, 4-star recruit has been courted by 34 different FBS programs and on March 14th he narrowed that group down to five remaining choices.
Now we won’t have to wait much longer for the speedster to narrow that field down to one. Long thought to be a lock to join Lincoln Riley and the Sooners, Williams announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he’ll be making his decision known at Noon on Friday.
Recording 2,448 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns through his first three seasons of high school ball, 247Sports has Williams as the #4 receiver prospect in the nation and the #8 overall prospect from the state of Florida in their composite rankings.
To take things another step further, Williams has also been tied to Caleb Williams who is the #1 quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class and Oklahoma’s top target. Should Mario pick the Sooners as expected it would go a long way in encouraging the belief that Caleb Williams is Norman bound as well.
A quick and shifty receiver, who doesn’t get caught from behind, Williams can also play laterally and has the ability to beat press coverage off the line of scrimmage. He’d be a perfect addition in the slot, or anywhere for that matter, in Riley’s offense.
