Kelvin Gilliam has made his decision. After receiving forty scholarship offers the 4-star weakside defensive end made his final decision from Penn State, South Carolina, and Oklahoma with the Sooners ultimately coming out on top.
At 6-3/250, Gilliam is ranked by 247Sports as the composite #7 weakside defensive end for 2020 and the overall #3 prospect from the state of Virginia.
A smart player with high motor, Gilliam has the ability to play on the edge or on the inside because he’s quick off the edge but can also bull rush just as well. His combination of speed, power, and size helped him to earn his 40 scholarship offers. He had narrowed those offers down to Minnesota, Florida, Virginia Tech, Cal, LSU, Kentucky, South Carolina, Texas, and Penn State who appeared to have been Oklahoma’s biggest challenge in securing a commitment.
The Sooners currently have 13 verbal commitments for the 2021 recruiting class. Ten of those are on the offensive of the ball, including Clayton Smith and Ethan Downs who also play weak-side defensive end. Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge is an Oklahoma commitment at the strong-side defensive end position. All four of OU’s current defensive end commitments are ranked as 4-star prospects by 247Sports.
