Setting the Stage
The Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0) enter today’s game against the Iowa State Cyclones (3-1) hungry to play some football. Last weekend’s matchup against the Baylor Bears was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak, and Cowboy fans are chomping at the bit for this battle of two of the Big 12’s top teams.
This is the 55th meeting between the Cowboys and the Cyclones, and Oklahoma State owns the series 32-19-3. The Cowboys have won 9 of the last 11 and 7 of the last 8, but the last 5 meetings have been decided by a touchdown or less.
Iowa State is a well-rounded team, and Oklahoma State is on their way, as well. The Cyclones have a few key pieces on offense, but they rely mostly on their defense, while the Cowboys are very similar. Oklahoma State was expected to have a fiery hot offense, but they have struggled so far. Meanwhile, their defense has been arguably the best in the conference.
Today’s meeting will likely come down to discipline. Whichever team is the least penalized and can force the most turnovers has the greatest chance to come away with the win, and with home field advantage, the Cowboys should be able to get the win.
