On the day that Brady Manek entered the portal Porter Moser stepped in the building and the timing may be perfect. The former Loyola head coach will now become the next head coach at the University of Oklahoma and Brady Manek should be the first person that he calls.
It was reported earlier on the day that Manek was entering the transfer portal but by his own admission the Harrah, Oklahoma native is just seeking what is best for him. A new coach with Final Four experience may be exactly what he’s looking for though.
Moser, 52, has a career record of 293-242 (.548 winning percentage) and was 188-141 in his 10 seasons in Chicago with a 6-2 record in the NCAA Tournament. He led the Ramblers to the Final Four in 2018 and Loyola exited in the Round of 16 (One step further than Oklahoma) this season but not before they pulled an upset of No. 1 seed Illinois in the second round.
A coach who preaches defense, Moser led Loyola to the nation’s top scoring defense for the 2020-21 season. Opponents scored just an average of 56.1 points per game against the Ramblers this season.
It’s reported that Oklahoma will triple Moser’s $1-million dollar per year salary he was receiving at Loyola but no official details have been released yet.
