This one didn’t end in a run-rule but it did end with Oklahoma’s 27th win of the season. The Sooners defeated Kansas by a modest final score of 6-2 on Friday evening to take the series and remain perfect on the season.
“G” Juarez struck out 9 Kansas batters and allowed just four hits, with one run scored, to improve her season record to 8-0. She was relieved in the seventh inning by Macy McAdoo who went two thirds of the way before Shannon Saile took the circle to record the final out.
The Jayhawks struck first on Friday night when Madison Hirsch took Juarez deep to right center field in the top of the second. KU’s 1-0 lead didn’t last long as Lynnsie Elam evened the game on a flyout to left field from Jana Johns. One batter later Mackenzie Donihoo scored Jayda Coleman with a single through the left side to put Oklahoma on top 2-1. The Sooners added one more run in the frame when Taylon Snow reached home plate on a line out from Tiare Jennings.
OU doubled its scoring output with three more runs in the fourth to take a commanding lead at 6-1. One of those runs came on an RBI single by Jocelyn Alo. Not only did she bring in Oklahoma’s final run of the night she extended her current hitting streak to 40 consecutive games.
The Jayhawks scored their final run in the top of the seventh to pull within the final score of 6-2 but it was too little too late for KU as the Sooners wrapped up their 51st consecutive conference series. Oklahoma goes for the series sweep on Saturday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled at 1:00 Central.
