In 2020, only one player recorded a punt for the Oklahoma Sooners…now RS Senior Reeves Mundschau. Listed as the only punter on the roster, the situation at the position will drastically change in the coming days.
Late Thursday evening, All-PAC 12 punter Michael Turk announced the intention to move his talents to Norman (via instagram – @hangtime) for the foreseeable future. Previously holding the role with the Arizona State Sun Devils, the kicker broke a single-game NCAA Record in the season opener by averaging 63 yards per punt. Quickly turning heads, Turk hoped the breakout performances would land him in the NFL.
However, the health situation which eliminated pro days and much of the season in 2020 for the PAC-12 put a halt on those dreams. Despite declaring for the pros, Turk’s name was not called during the selection process. Returning to the college ranks, ASU and Turk stood at odds with one another over a recently enacted rule — vaccination requirements to travel with the team.
Making a personal decision after apparent research, Turk decided to part ways with the university. Having already graduated, the punter will come with immediate eligibility and look to steal time from the incumbent while pursuing a professional career in football.
Turk chose the Sooners over others such as Nebraska, Syracuse, and Utah.
