The Oklahoma Sooners secured a win in the opening week of play. Despite the thoughts of those surrounding the program, the fact is that a Big 12 Championship opportunity is still intact. The chance to play in the College Football Playoff has not been removed from the table. Lastly, a shot at the National Championship remains on the horizon. In the pursuit of the elusive No. 8 Title, the program will have to deal with injuries and absences for other reasons. Here’s the current injury list:
DL Jordan Kelley | Questionable
Noticeably absent during warm-ups against the Tulane Green Wave on September 4, Jordan Kelley is said to have missed the game due to an undisclosed injury. Without knowledge of the type of injury or the severity of the injury, it’s hard to establish a timeline for the return of the defensive lineman. For now, Kelley is on a week-to-week basis and could make a return this upcoming weekend.
WR Theo Wease | Out Indefinitely
Preparing for the opening week of play, Theo Wease suffered a lower body injury during practice. The news sidelined the receiver for the foreseeable future. While it’s not a season-ending injury, it is one that will take some time to recover from. During post-game interviews, Lincoln Riley addressed the situation saying Wease “will miss at least half the season.”
RB Marcus Major | Out for Season
Marcus Major was previously ruled academically ineligible for the 2021-22 season. The news left the Oklahoma Sooners with two scholarship running backs on the roster. Moving forward, it’s a position that the program must address through recruiting efforts at both the high school and JUCO levels.
