Caleb Williams And Mario Williams Earn Weekly Big 12 Honors

Oklahoma’s offense was clicking against Texas Tech on Saturday. The Sooners posted 541 total yards and 52 points in a blowout win against the Red Raiders and on Monday the Big 12 recognized two key contributors to that performance.

Caleb Williams was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after setting Oklahoma true freshman records with 402 passing yards and six touchdown passes. He completed 23 of 30 passes (76.7%) and finished with a 255.2 passing efficiency rating, which was the best nationally for the week and the best in the country this season among quarterbacks who attempted at least 30 passes. He also became just the third player in OU history to throw for at least six touchdowns without an interception, joining Heisman Trophy winners Baker Mayfield (2016 vs. Texas Tech) and Kyler Murray (2018 vs. Baylor). With just three starts under his belt this season, Williams has 14 TD passes against one interception and ranks second nationally with his 203.7 passing efficiency mark.

Mario Williams earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for his efforts. He caught a team-high five passes for a career-high 100 yards and a touchdown for the Sooners on Saturday. His 22-yard first-quarter TD reception was his third on the season. He also accounted for receptions of ones of 26 and 36 yards. The 36-yarder was a career-long.
