Oklahoma’s Tanner Groves Named Big 12 Newcomer Of The Week

Oklahoma Basketball is off to a fast 2-0 start to the season and Tanner Groves is a big reason why. The transfer from Eastern Washington averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest (all defensive) in OU’s two games last week. He ranked fourth in the Big 12 in points and defensive rebounds per game and 10th in total rebounds per contest.

Groves led the Sooners in points in both games, scoring 15 points against the Demons in the season opener, and 21 against the Roadrunners Friday night. Shooting 9-for-16 shooting from the field on Friday night, Groves’ nine baskets were tied for the second most in a single game last week in the Big 12. Only Kansas’ Ochai Agbaji, who was named Big 12 Player of the Week, tallied more field goals made (11) in a game.

The Sooners are back in action Thursday, Nov. 18 against East Carolina in the first round of the Myrtle Beach Invitational in Conway, S.C. Oklahoma is guaranteed three games at the tournament and will play Old Dominion or Indiana State in the second round Friday.
