Notes & Storylines
- In last Friday’s game against UTSA, The Sooners held the Roadrunners to 22.7% (15-66) shooting from the field. The third-lowest field-goal percentage by an OU opponent since the 1995-96 season. It is the lowest percentage since Texas Tech shot 21.2% (1/28/15).
- The Sooners are competing in the Myrtle Beach Invitational for the first time in program history.
- Oklahoma senior forward Tanner Groves was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week by the conference after aiding the Sooners to two victories against Northwestern State and UTSA last week.
- Coming into this week, ECU ranked first among American Athletic Conference squads in assists per game, second in scoring offense and third in field goal percentage defense and assist/turnover ratio.
Scouting The Pirates
- East Carolina currently has four players scoring in double figures on average with Vance Jackson just under the mark at 9.7 points per game. A total of five Pirates notched double-digit points in the win over Canisius while Jackson netted nine – nearly giving ECU six double-figure scorers in a contest since a 91-85 victory at UAB back on Jan. 23, 2013.
- The Pirates are 3-13 against current members of the Big 12 Conference. ECU will take on its first Big 12 program since losing to Iowa State 80-73 back on Dec. 29, 1980.
- Tristen Newton is the Pirates leading scorer and averages 19.7 points, 4.7 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. Newton tallied 30 points in ECU’s victory over Western Carolina. The Sophomore guard also is the team leader in assists (4.7) and second in rebounds (5.0) per contest.
- Brandon Johnson is ECU’s team leader with 8.7 rebounds per game and boasts 26 rebounds to start the season.
