The 2022 Big 12 regular season championship could be decided as early Saturday evening after Oklahoma took the opener of the Bedlam series in Norman on Thursday night. The win put the Sooners on the cusp of clinching the series against Oklahoma State but also one more victory away from an unprecedented tenth consecutive regular season Big 12 title.
Tiare Jennings hit a 3-RBI home run in the bottom of the third and Jordy Bahl struck out six OSU batters and allowed just one run and four hits in a complete game performance as OU won 7-1. After back-to-back scoreless innings to start the game, Jocelyn Alo scored Jana Johns in the third on a single to left center field. Jennings then cleared the bases, in the next at bat, when she took an 0-2 pitch over the wall in right center field. Her three-run shot put the Sooners up by a 4-0 margin which would be more than enough offense to back up Bahl’s dominating performance.
Oklahoma plated two more runs in the fourth when Jayda Coleman and Jocelyn Alo drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded. It was the second RBI of the night for Alo who finished just behind Jennings who had a team high three runs batted in.
The Cowgirls scored their only run of the night in the top of the fifth when Sydney Pennington knocked in Chelsea Alexander with a single down the left field line. Oklahoma got the run back in the bottom half of the inning when Lynnsie Elam scored on a wild pitch, producing the final score of 7-1.
Game two of the Bedlam series is set for a 6 PM start on Friday night. The game will be televised on ESPN 2.
