The Big 12 Softball Championship Bracket Is Set – Sooners Face Either Bears Or Cyclones On Friday

Are we going to have Bedlam at the Big 12? That’s certainly a possibility as the Sooners and Cowgirls are on opposite sides of the championship bracket. Oklahoma’s sweep of Oklahoma State over the weekend earned them the Big 12 regular season title and a bye in the first round of the championship tournament. That means the Sooners will only have to win one game in order to make it to Saturday’s championship. The next time we see Jocely Alo and company take the field will be at 1PM on Friday against either Baylor or Iowa State.

The Bears and Cyclones will get the tournament started on Thursday with the first of three games to be played at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City.

The other side of the bracket looks to be set up for a semifinal matchup between Oklahoma State and Texas. As the top three seeds in the tournament, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas are all locks to be included in the NCAA Tournament and strong contenders to be Regional hosts. Should the Cowgirls and Longhorns advance to Friday’s semifinal round, they could be playing each other for the opportunity to host a Super Regional as well as a berth into the Big 12 championship game.

Oklahoma swept both Baylor and Iowa State in Norman this season, beating the Bears 9-1, 8-0, and 3-1. The Cyclones went down by the final scores of 6-4, 9-0, and 9-0. Regardless of the opponent, Oklahoma’s semifinal game on Friday will be broadcast on ESPNU.
