Sooners Move To Within A Game Of Super Regional, Sunday’s Schedule & A Look At Orlando

Texas A&M has never beaten Oklahoma Softball in the postseason. Now the Aggies are faced with the task of having to beat the Sooners twice on Sunday in order to save their season. Meanwhile, OU only needs one more win to advance to the Super Regional and that sets the stage for Sunday’s action in Norman.

Oklahoma advanced to the Norman Regional championship with a 3-2 win over Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon. Jayda Coleman led off the game with a solo homerun and the Sooners would never relinquish that lead thanks to a complete-game, three-hit performance from Hope Trautwein.

OU led 2-0 after the opening frame and then Coleman delivered again in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double down the right field line that scored Rylie Boone. The Aggies got two back in the top of the sixth with a two-run blast from catcher Haley Lee. It was just the second home run against Trautwein this season and the only runs she would surrender on the day.

The win advanced the Sooners to Sunday’s championship round and put the Aggies at just one loss away from elimination. After bouncing Prairie View A&M in the second game of the day, Minnesota had the first opportunity to end Texas A&M’s season. However a six-run sixth inning propelled the Aggies to an eventual 10-7 win and another crack at the defending national champions on Sunday.

Sunday Schedule

Oklahoma just has to win one game on Sunday to advance, and host, a Super Regional next weekend. Texas A&M must force a second game and win them both in order to advance.

  • Game 6: 1:00 p.m. | No. 1 Oklahoma vs. Texas A&M
  • Game 7: 4330 p.m. if necessary

Keeping An Eye On Orlando

Weather has the Orlando Regional in a bit of disarray. UCF rallied in the seventh and then defeated Michigan in extra innings to advance to the regional championship but then play was halted for the day due to rain. The plan is to wrap up the regional on Sunday and that could potentially result in South Dakota State or Villanova playing four games on Sunday.

  • Game 4: 9:00 a.m. Sunday resume | South Dakota State vs. Villanova | Elimination Game
  • Game 5: 10:30 a.m. Sunday | Michigan vs. South Dakota State-Villanova winner | Elimination Game
  • Game 6: 1 p.m. Sunday between No. 16 UCF and Game 5 Winner
  • Game 7: 3:30 p.m. Sunday if necessary

The winner of the Norman Regional will have the winner of the Orlando Regional next weekend.
