Anthony Evans holds 29 scholarship offers and his speed is one of the primary weapons. Jeff Lebby pulled a fast one when he was able to woo him away from Georgia on the morning of his commitment date. The 5-10.5/160 prospect from Converse, Texas is rated as a composite 4-star prospect by 247Sporst. The recruiting service has him as the No. 45 receiver in the 2023 class and the No. 62 overall prospect from the state of Texas.
Evans legitimately possesses track speed. In May of last year he placed third in Texas 6A 200-meter final with a 21.10 and then he placed second at the district 100-meter final with a 10.92. When you couple that kind of speed with good hands, and then put the pads on, you get a receiver who routinely breaks away from the defenders that are in pursuit. That was the case last Friday night when he clocked in at nearly 21 MPH to score on the opening drive against Westlake.
Despite Converse Judson being outmanned, Evans was still able to shine bright against the Texas High School Football Powerhouse. He followed up his 77-yard touchdown reception with an 85-yard kickoff return in the third quarter. After a little misdirection, it was all speed for Evans.
With 22 verbal commitments, Oklahoma 2023 recruiting class currently ranks No. 5 nationally.
