The Sooners Have A Massive Streak On The Line Against The Mountaineers

Oklahoma is one win away from bowl eligibility and Saturday could actually provide the best opportunity to gain victory #6 of the 2022 campaign. The Sooners have won nine consecutive games against West Virginia and will be looking to extend that streak at 11:00 Saturday morning.

The Mountaineers are 3-6 on the season, and just 1-5, in Big 12 play. However, the most important stat in regards to this matchup is that WVU has never beaten OU in Morgantown. Oklahoma owns an 11-2 record against West Virginia and is 4-0 vs. the Mountaineers in Morgantown. In the Big 12 era, the Sooners hold a 9-0 series advantage and have averaged 44 points per game.

That’s not to say that the series hasn’t been exciting though, especially in Morgantown where the two teams are averaging a combined 94 points per game. The lowest number of points the Sooners have scored in Morgantown was 45 back in 2014 and the fewest they’ve held the Mountaineers to on their home turf was 26 points in 2016. As Saturday’s game approaches, OU is averaging 33.2 points per game on the season while WVU is posting 32.1 points per game.

The Sooners haven’t played at West Virginia since 2018. Their scheduled 2020 game in Morgantown did not occur due to complications with COVID protocols from both programs. OU remains the only program the Mountaineers have not defeated since joining the Big 12 prior to the 2012 season

Oklahoma is 2-3 over its last five games while West Virginia is 1-4 over its last five. Saturday’s game will be televised by FS1.
