This Week’s Picks
Craig
Utah (+2.5) vs. USC | I took Utah in the first matchup and it paid off. The Trojans have been playing the better football as of late. But, I think Utah finds a way to get it done again and win the Pac 12.
TCU (-2.5) vs. Kansas State | TCU is one win away from the college football playoffs. In their last matchup with the Wildcats back in October, the Horned Frogs overcame an 11 point deficit after shutting out Kansas State for the entire second half. I think TCU will coast their way through this Big 12 Championship game.
LSU (+17.5) vs. Georgia | I’m going to take Georgia to win the game. That being said, I think LSU will keep it respectable. The spread seems a bit large, I’m taking the Tigers to cover.
Matt
Utah (+3) vs. USC | It’s hard to beat a team twice in the same football season but the fact that the Utes have done it once yields a bit of confidence here. Utah can pretty much match USC’s offensive firepower so this will come down to turnovers and pressure. A Heisman Trophy and CFP berth on the line for the Trojans puts a lot of pressure on that side of the field.
LSU (+17.5) vs. Georgia | Three scores is a lot of points to give in a conference championship game. Hands down, Georgia is the best team in the nation and pretty much a lock for the CFP. Does that mean they sleepwalk through a quarter or two of this game?
North Carolina (+7.5) vs. Clemson | This game has so much potential to get ugly. I honestly can’t see it being more than a one-score final and if you look at UNC’s results this season you’ll notice that eight of their twelve games been one score or less, including the last four in a row.
Zack
Kansas State (+2.5) vs. TCU | This is a tough pick for me because while I’m a big believer that TCU has been a benefactor of a few lucky breaks, I also believe that the Horned Frogs looked dominant in their regular season finale last week. Still, it’s difficult to beat the same team twice in the same season (see last year’s Big 12 championship), so I’m taking K-State to win round 2 with TCU.
LSU (+17.5) vs. Georgia | I think Georgia is the best team in the country, but I think 18 points is a ton to win by, so I’m taking LSU to cover, probably just barely.
North Carolina (+7.5) vs. Clemson | Clemson has looked shaky this season, very up and down, and while I still think they beat the Tar Heels, I’m betting it’s by less than a touchdown.
