The Sooners are still putting together the pieces for what will become the 2023 football team, and beyond, and a victory in the trenches is the latest indicator of areas in which they are looking to boost the roster. After being top heavy on defensive positions coming out of the transfer portal Oklahoma has shifted towards offensive positions as of late with former Stanford offensive tackle Walter Rouse becoming the latest portal player to commit to Jeff Lebby’s system.
A four-year starter for Stanford (39 games), Rouse committed to Nebraska on Wednesday. However, as was the case with Peyton Bowen, that didn’t take the “OU DNA” out of his blood and he announced his change of destination on Saturday.
Initially a member of Stanford’s 2019 class, Rouse was rated by 247Sports as a 3-star prospect and the #37 offensive tackle in the class. The Washington DC native was supposed to arrive to Lincoln on Sunday (January 15th) but instead becomes the 11th transfer portal player to land in Norman for the 2023 cycle. He is the fourth offensive player from the portal, joining Andrel Anthony (WR – Michigan), Caleb Shaffer (OG – Miami, OH), and Austin Stogner (TE – South Carolina).
