Norman Regional Second Round | Here’s What You Need To Know About Oklahoma & Missouri

Oklahoma and Missouri survived unscathed in Friday’s opening round of the Norman Regional. The two former conference foes will square off today with a berth in the regional championship on the line. Here’s what you need to know about today’s second round matchup between the Sooners and the Tigers.

How Missouri Go Here

Jenna Laird went 4-for-4 from the plate as the Tigers downed Cal 5-1 in the opening Round. Missouri scored two runs in the top of the first, one in the third, and then two more in the top of the seventh to send the Golden Bears into the loser’s bracket. From the circle, Laurin Krings held Cal to just one run, off four hits, while striking out three.

How Oklahoma Got Here

The Sooners plated runs in each of the first three innings before exploding for six in the fourth to send Hofstra into the loser’s bracket with an 11-0 rout. Grace Lyons and Jayda Coleman each hit 2-run homers as Oklahoma collected its 11 runs off 12 hits. Nicole May held the Pride to just one hit while striking out five before being relieved by Storako at the start of the fifth.

The History

OU holds a 54-41 advantage over Mizzou. The Tigers hold the series lead over the Sooners in Norman 20-18. The teams have met twice in the postseason, splitting the contests. In 2011, Mizzou knocked OU out of the 2011 WCWS with a 4-1 win. Most recently, OU evened the postseason score with a 7-0 win in the 2018 Norman Regional final.

Did you know? Oklahoma’s last Big 12 conference series loss was to the Tigers in 2011 in Columbia.

At Stake

The winner of this game will be finished for the day, advance to tomorrow’s championship round, and become just a win away from the Super Regionals. The loser will wait and face the winner of Cal and Hofstra for the opportunity to advance to the championship round. Whoever advances through the loser’s bracket will have to win twice on Sunday in order to advance to the Super Regionals.
