We hit the trifecta with the Cubs and Mets yesterday. That improves our weekly record to 6-3 and completely washed away our small amount of losses on the week, placing us at a net $20.45 if we were to wager an imaginary $10 bet on each one. We’re staying in the upper northeast again for tonight with Washington (50-65) at Philadelphia (63-52).
The Pitchers
Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola (9-8, 4.58 ERA) has allowed 3.8 earned runs per game over the last five. He’s picked up two wins over that stretch but has failed to make it to the sixth inning in his last two starts.
Washington is going to counter with Patrick Corbin (7-11, 5.03 ERA) who has also picked up two wins over his last five starts. Corbin has gone at least five innings in his last five appearances and has allowed an average of 3.2 runs per game.
The Lineups
Lane Thomas is the key to Washington’s lineup. He leads the Nationals with 20 home runs, a .284 batting average, and 67 RBI. Five players in the Nats lineup have recorded at least one hit off of Nola, including Thomas who is 3-10 with a home run. Washington has scored 22 runs in the last five games.
Philadelphia is led by Kyle Schwarber (30 HRs), Bryson Stott (.302 batting average), and Alec Bohm (73 RBI). The Phillies have six players in the lineup who have recorded multiple hits off Corbin, including three who have taken him deep multiple times. Philadelphia has scored 36 runs over the last five games.
The Streaks
Washington has lost two of the last three games while Philadelphia has won four of the last five.
The Odds
Phillies -1.5
Phillies -250 on the moneyline
O/U 9
I like the Phillies in this one but I also like the Nationals to cover that +1.5 run total. The odds on the moneyline are horrible but we’re getting -110 on the under/over and I think that’s where our best bet it. I am a sucker for the under but I’m going opposite tonight and taking the over.
