We’re barely hanging on for the week! After hitting a trifecta on Wednesday, we followed up by going just 1-2 yesterday with the Phillies vs. Nationals. That drops our weekly record to 7-5 and gives us just $7.55 in winnings, had we been making a $10 bet on each wager. With three days remaining in the week, we’re looking to string together some wins and end on a high note. Today’s random game brings us back, once again, to a couple of familiar teams as San Diego (55-60) visits Arizona (57-58).
The Pitchers
Despite being just 8-8 on the season, Blake Snell has a decent 2.61 ERA. He’s secured two wins in his last five starts, and has allowed and average of just 1 earned run per game during that span, compared to 32 strikeouts. Snell has gone the minimum of just five innings in four of his last five starts.
Arizona’s Ryne Nelson (6-6, 5.16 ERA) has collected one win in his last five appearances. He’s allowing an average of 3.2 earned runs per game during that stretch and has recorded a combined 15 strikeouts. He gone six innings, or deeper, three times in his last five starts but allowed five runs in just three innings of work against the Twins on August 5th.
The Lineups
The Padres have a duo of offensive leaders with Juan Soto leading the team in home runs (24) and RBI (73), while Ha-Seon Kim leads in batting average (.288). San Diego has scored 18 runs over the last five games.
Christian Walker is pacing the Diamondbacks with 23 home runs and 70 RBI, and Ketel Marte has a team-best .282 batting average. Arizona has scored just 10 runs over the last five games.
The Streaks
San Diego comes into this game having lost four in a row while Arizona hasn’t won since July 31st and is currently on an eight-game losing streak. Something has to give tonight, right?

The Padres are the obvious pick on the moneyline, and the -165 odds reflect that. Neither team has been hitting well recently so I like the Diamondbacks to keep it within +1.5 runs as the best bet of the day. I’m still finding myself on the wrong side of the over/under so be aware there. I’m taking the under with this game tonight.
