Ahhhh….the stench of defeat. Unfortunately we’ve been whiffing that way too much lately. You know that they say, though. Hitters hit their way out of a slump. And, shooters shoot their way out of a slump. That means we’re going to pick our way out of this slump. We went 1-2 again on Tuesday, with our picks on the Guardians and Twins, making our record 2-4 on the week. It’s still early though, which is hopefully a good thing. We’re sticking to the American League again with today’s contest, going with Texas (75-57) and the New York Mets (60-73).
The Pitchers
Mets pitcher Kodai Senga (10-7, 3.17 ERA) has picked up wins in three of his last five starts. During that span he is allowing an average of 2.2 earned runs per game. He’s made it into the sixth inning, or deeper, in four of his last five starts.
Opposing Senga is going to be Dane Dunning (9-6, 3.36 ERA) for the Rangers. His only win across his last five starts was on August 2nd against the White Sox. Dunning is allowing an average of 2.4 earned runs per appearance over his last five starts, and only went four innings against Minnesota on August fourth.
The Lineups
The Rangers are led from the plate by Adolis Garcia, who has knocked 32 home runs and recorded 95 RBI. Nathaniel Lowe leads the team with a .282 batting average. The Rangers have scored 20 runs over the last five games.
For the Mets it’s Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil who power the offense. Alonso has blasted 39 home runs, and plated 96 RBI, while Nimmo is batting .266 on the season. The Mets have scored 11 runs over the last five games.
The Streaks
The Rangers have won three of their last four games, including the first two of this series in New York. The Mets have lost two in a row and four of the last five games.
The Odds
Mets -1.5
Mets -105 on the moneyline
O/U 8.5
Look at my streak and take these picks at your own risk. The Mets are favored to win here, but they’re getting better spread and moneyline odds than the Rangers. That should tell you something right there. I do like the Mets to win this game, and snap their skid, but I’m hedging and taking the Rangers at +1.5. I don’t expect a lot of offense, from either side, so we’re grabbing the under for this one.
