Oklahoma rolled to a season opening 73-0 win over Arkansas State in a game where they were never really challenged, and the outcome was never in doubt. Still though, you can only play the teams on your schedule, and if complete domination is what was required to walk away feeling good then that’s exactly what we got. Oklahoma racked up 642 total yards of offense, scored ten touchdowns and a field goal, and averaged 8.65 yards per snap. Defensively, the Sooners held Arkansas State to just 160 yards through the air and 48 yards on the ground. So, the question is, who should get credit as the M.V.P. for the Sooners?
Dillion Gabriel only played a half but he was 19/22 for 308 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a 5-yard score.
Gavin Freeman took a punt return 82 yards for a score. He also caught four passes for 19 yards and another score.
Drake Stoops was off to a strong start before getting injured. He scored the first touchdown of the game and caught four passes for 56 yards before the injury.
Our final candidate is starting running back Tawee Walker who only rushed for 44 yards but averaged 5.5 yards per carry and scored two touchdowns.
