MLB Best Bet For September 8, 2023 | White Sox vs. Tigers

Our good week continued yesterday by going 2-1 on our Cardinals/Braves picks. That puts us in a good spot, as the weekend approaches, with an 8-4 record. Our random game generator is giving us the Chicago White Sox (54-86) vs. Detroit (64-76). This will be the start of a second series between these two teams within a week’s time. The Tigers swept the White Sox, in a three-game series, from September 2-4. That series was played in Chicago.

The Pitchers

Chicago is putting Mike Clevinger (6-7, 3.90 ERA) on the mound. He gave up eight runs to the Tigers a week ago, but does have two wins over his last five starts. During that span he’s posting an earned run average of 2.8 earned runs per game.

The Tigers are countering with Reese Olson (3-6, 4.65 ERA) on the mound. Olson has won in four of his last five starts and blanked the White Sox just in a 7-inning performance just last week. Over the last five Olson is allowing an average of 2.2 earned runs per game.

The Lineups

Luis Robert Jr. leads the White Sox in home runs (35), Andrew Vaughn paces the team with 73 RBI and Andrew Benintendi has a team best .271 batting average. The White Sox have plated 15 runs in the last five games.

Spencer Torkelson and Matt Vierling lead a Detroit lineup that has plated 27 runs over the last five games. Torkelson has gone yard a team-best 27 times and has knocked in 76 RBI. Vierling paces the Tigers in batting average with a .267 mark.

The Streaks

Chicago won at Kansas City last night, snapping a 5-game losing streak. The Tigers are also coming off a win over the Yankees and have won three of their last five games.

The Odds

Tigers -1.5

Tigers -140 on the moneyline

O/U 8.5

There’s too much to love here about Detroit not to take them on both the moneyline and with the -1.5 runs. Recent history between these two teams tells you that’s the way to go. The problem for me in the over/under. My formula says, once again, that I need to take the under. That pick has killed me this week but I gotta stick with it.
