Matthew McConaughey Sends His Congratulations To The Sooners

The 2023 Red River Rivalry certainly lived up to the hype…and then some, and the aftermath will keep people talking for days, weeks, and probably even months. All people, in all walks of life attended, or tuned in, including several celebrities. I think at the end of the day most fans, at least the level-headed ones, were able to sit back and appreciate what they had seen on the field at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday. The two titans of the Big 12 battled it out to an epic final-second decision in one of the all-time great Red River Rivalry clashes. Ultimately the Sooners walked off the field victorious, in what is sure to be one of the legendary games that’ll be talked about years from now. Oklahoma’s 34-30 victory left a sigh of relief for Sooner fans, a gasp of frustration for Texas fans, and a spirit of appreciation for what had just unfolded for just about everyone.

You can include Hollywood superstar and ultra Texas fan Matthew McConaughey in that last category. After the game’s conclusion, McConaughey sent out the following message to both programs, showing both disappointment for the Longhorns as well as congratulations and appreciation towards the Sooners.

Both teams are off next weekend and will pick up their quest the following weekend to meet up again in Arlington, for the Big 12 Championship Game, on December 2nd.

  1. That’s kind of ironic. This summer a friend of mine that’s an actor and huge Sooner fan was in a movie with McConaughey.
He was telling what a good dude he was and my buddy didn’t want to and never did bring up the fact that he was a Sooner and hated the Longhorns. They became friends and my buddy said the thing he liked about him was the fact that he was a Christian and wasn’t afraid to let it be known in Hollywood. I gained a little respect for Matthew then, and told my wife and friends it made me respect UT a little more knowing that he was a “mentor “ for the team.
I’ve found that it’s better to look for and find the good in people than to alway be dogging them for their ways. It doesn’t surprise me that he did that video, but I’m sure he’ll catch hell for it in some circles.
