Bauer Sharp only started playing the tight end position in the spring of 2022. Two seasons later, the former quarterback became a 2023 SLC All-Conference First Team selection. He entered the transfer portal as one of the most popular options at the tight end position. Rated, by 247Sports, as a 4-star portal player, Sharp immediately drew interest from Tennessee and Utah. However, it was Oklahoma that was able to snag him, and his versatility may be a fun experience for Sooner Nation to enjoy.
Having caught 29 passes in 2023, for 288 yards and three touchdowns, Sharp was on his way to becoming a prominent figure in the Southeastern Louisiana offense moving forward. However, the Dothan, Alabama native has his sights set on a bigger stage and his “Swiss Army Knife” skillset could allow him to become a headache for opponents.
Sharp only attempted one pass in 2023. Unfortunately it was incomplete, but the potential of him being involved in that aspect is definitely there. The other dimension of his game that should draw enthusiasm is what he can do with his legs, both after the catch and as a “Wildcat” option at the snap.
His size (6-5/245) and strength make him a perfect option as a Wildcat QB, and his history as a quarterback has to at least make defensive backs think for a second or two. He carried the ball 25 times in 2023 for a respectable 145 yards and 5.3 yards per carry. He also tied for the team high with five rushing touchdowns.
Sharp becomes the fourth player to commit to Oklahoma from the transfer portal. He’s the fourth offensive player to transfer in so far in 2024.
