Heisman Hangout Pays Off: Sooners Land Versatile Safety Marcus Wimberly

The Oklahoma Sooners have secured a commitment from talented safety Marcus Wimberly, adding another piece to their already impressive 2025 recruiting class. This commitment comes on the heels of the program’s successful Heisman Hangout recruiting event.

Wimberly: A Versatile Threat

Hailing from Bauxite, Arkansas, Wimberly is a three-star safety according to the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings. He’s ranked No. 47 nationally at his position and is considered a top-five player in Arkansas. Don’t let the three-star label fool you – the 247Sports Network ranks him even higher at No. 45 among safeties.

A Multifaceted Playmaker

Wimberly showcased his versatility during his junior season, playing significant snaps at receiver, quarterback, as well as in the defensive secondary. His athleticism translates into impressive stats – 533 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, and 302 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he added 12 tackles and a fumble recovery to his repertoire.

Why Oklahoma?

For Wimberly, the decision to become a Sooner boiled down to several factors. He was impressed by the strong team culture, the emphasis on player development under Coach Brandon Hall, and the opportunity to compete in the SEC. The Sooners’ commitment to developing him not just as a player, but also as a man, resonated deeply with Wimberly.

Heisman Hangout Pays Off

This commitment highlights the effectiveness of the Heisman Hangout. The event provided Wimberly with the opportunity to experience Oklahoma’s football program firsthand. He, as well as other recruits, interacted with coaches, current players, and toured the facilities. This firsthand experience likely solidified his interest in becoming a Sooner.

A Perfect Match

This commitment is a win-win for both sides. Wimberly fills a crucial need in the Sooners’ secondary and fits perfectly with the program’s culture and Coach Brent Venables’ vision.

Welcome to the Sooner Family, Marcus!

Wimberly becomes the 11th member of the Sooners’ 2025 recruiting class, which currently sits at No. 5 nationally.
