Oklahoma City Thunder Hold Off Charlotte Hornets Despite Late Push (121-118)
The Oklahoma City Thunder snapped their three-game losing streak with a thrilling 121-118 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night.
Thunder Overcome Injuries and Former Players:
Despite missing star players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, Oklahoma City received strong contributions from unlikely heroes. Aaron Wiggins exploded for a season-high 26 points with 6 steals and 5 assists, while Chet Holmgren added a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The win nearly slipped away for the Thunder, as former Oklahoma City players Vasa Micic, Tre Mann, and Davis Bertans, all acquired by Charlotte in a February trade, fueled a Hornets comeback. Micic, in particular, had a well-rounded performance with 17 points and 10 assists.
Giddey Notches 11th Career Triple-Double:
Filling the void left by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, Giddey put on a triple-double masterclass, recording 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists. This marks his 11th career triple-double, solidifying his position as one of the league’s most promising young talents.
Isaiah Joe Delivers Clutch Threes:
With the game tied in the final minutes, Isaiah Joe emerged as the hero for the Thunder. He drilled two crucial three-pointers, including the game-winner with 54.6 seconds remaining, to put Oklahoma City ahead for good.
Hornets’ Late Surge Falls Short:
Charlotte had its chances down the stretch, even taking a brief lead late in the fourth quarter. However, Brandon Miller’s missed three-pointer at the buzzer sealed the Hornets’ fate. Miles Bridges also struggled from beyond the arc, finishing 2-of-15 on three-point attempts.
Up Next:
The Thunder will look to end the season with a winning streak as they return to OKC for a four-game homestand, starting with the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night.
