Oklahoma Outlasts Texas Tech in Offensive Showdown
The game started slow, scoreless until late in the first quarter when Texas Tech took the lead with a halfback pass. However, the Sooners roared back in the second quarter thanks to quarterback Blake Bell. Bell found wide receiver Jalen Saunders twice for touchdowns, including a game-changing 76-yard bomb. This put Oklahoma ahead 14-7 at halftime.
The Sooners extended their lead in the third quarter with a rushing touchdown by Damien Williams. Texas Tech refused to go down without a fight, though. Quarterback Davis Webb led the Red Raiders back with two touchdown passes, putting them ahead 24-21.
The turning point came with a dazzling jet sweep reverse by Oklahoma’s Lacoltan Bester. This play sparked a Sooner rally, culminating in them retaking the lead for good. Texas Tech managed to close the gap with a touchdown run by Kenny Williams with six minutes left, but their two-point conversion attempt failed. Oklahoma then ran down the clock and added a field goal to secure a 38-30 victory.
Jalen Saunders: The Sooner’s Explosive Threat
While Blake Bell orchestrated the Oklahoma offense efficiently, Jalen Saunders stole the show. He hauled in six receptions for a whopping 153 yards and two touchdowns, including the critical 76-yard score. Saunders was Oklahoma’s biggest weapon all afternoon.
