Oklahoma Softball Bolsters Roster with All-American Transfer Abby Dayton
University of Oklahoma’s softball team, led by eight-time champion coach Patty Gasso, is actively fortifying its roster for the 2025 season. Their efforts go beyond their recent recruiting class with the addition of a decorated outfielder, Abby Dayton, through the transfer portal.
Dayton, previously a standout player at the University of Utah, announced her commitment to the Sooners on Sunday. A 2024 NFCA Third Team All-American, Dayton dominated the Pac-12 conference, leading the league with an impressive .444 batting average during the regular season. Her on-base percentage was equally impressive, finishing the year at .510. While home runs weren’t her main strength (2), she consistently reached base, racking up 72 hits, including 10 doubles and 6 triples, for a strong 1.109 OPS.

Dayton’s achievements extend beyond the 2024 season. She’s a proven talent, having garnered NFCA All-Pacific Region First-Team and All-Pac-12 First-Team honors. This addition addresses a critical need for the Sooners, who lost outfielders Jayda Coleman and Rylie Boone to graduation. Dayton is expected to start alongside returning players Hannah Coor and Kasidi Pickering, with a group of freshmen also vying for playing time.
The Sooners’ core remains strong with the anticipated return of first baseman Cydney Sanders, designated player Ella Parker, and starting pitcher Kierston Deal. Patty Gasso is strategically blending experienced talent with fresh faces, and adding a decorated hitter like Dayton only solidifies their position to once again be a national title contender.
