Oklahoma Sooners Stockpiling Receiving Talent: Mills Joins Loaded 2025 Class

The Oklahoma Sooners are building an incredibly talented receiving corps of the future, and their latest haul is Cortez Mills, a 4-star prospect from Homestead, Florida. Mills becomes the Sooners’ third wide receiver commitment in just over two weeks, solidifying Coach Emmitt Jones’ reputation as one of the hottest recruiters in college football.

A 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete, Mills chose Oklahoma over 38 other scholarship offers, including powerhouse programs like LSU, Florida, and Clemson. His talent is undeniable – as a junior, he racked up an impressive 79 receptions for 1,640 yards and 18 touchdowns.

“The relationship with Coach Jones was a big factor,” Mills said after his announcement on On3’s YouTube channel. “We had a strong bond, and it felt like home for me and my family.” This connection with Emmitt Jones played a key role in Mills’ decision, highlighting the importance of strong player-coach relationships on the recruiting trail, something that Jones could teach a master class on.

This commitment also speaks to the effectiveness of Oklahoma’s recent visits. Just two weeks ago, Mills was on campus alongside another 4-star receiver, Marcus Harris, who pledged his allegiance to the Sooners shortly after. Now, Mills has followed suit.

“They knew [about my decision],” Mills said regarding Oklahoma’s coaching staff. “They were excited – I was a top priority for their program, and I felt the love.” This feeling of being valued is another crucial element that Jones is using in attracting top recruits. They’re leaving their visits secure in the fact that they belong at OU and add value to the program.

Mills’ commitment adds to a receiving class already was boasting four talented prospects. 4-star wideouts Gracen Harris (Ennis, TX) and Elijah Thomas (Checotah, OK) committed last year, while Emmanuel Choice joined the fold earlier this month. With Coach Jones at the helm, the Sooners are building a receiving corps that could be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
