#15 Oklahoma vs. Houston | Thoughts On The Updated Depth Chart

As expected, the Sooners have made adjustments to the depth chart heading into their Week 2 matchup against the Houston Cougars. Oklahoma had some guys banged up heading into last week’s season opener against Temple and then suffered a few injuries during the game, which ultimately forced the changes to the lineup that we’re seeing now.

On the offensive line, Branson Hickman appears to have a 50/50 shot at starting this week after exiting the Temple game with an ankle sprain. He’s listed as an “or” with Josh Bates at center. The left side of the line remains intact with Michael Tarquin and Jacob Sexton, while Febechi Nwaiwu will start at right guard. Jake Taylor and Spencer Brown are battling for the right tackle spot. Geirean Hatchett, who filled in at center last week, is listed as the backup right guard this week.

At wide receiver, JJ Hester is going to be called upon to step up and fill the void left by Jalil Farooq‘s injury. Zion Ragins has also been added to the depth chart behind Hester and Zion Kearney.

Defensively, the Sooners appear to be relatively healthy, with no changes to the starting lineup.

Hester’s Opportunity

JJ Hester has a significant opportunity to make an impact in the Oklahoma offense. As a highly-rated recruit in Missouri’s 2020 class. Hester landed in Norman following the 2021 season. He has shown flashes of potential but has been hampered by injuries for the majority of his first two seasons. With Farooq out, Hester will need to step up and contribute significantly.

Overall, the Sooners were expected to make adjustments to their depth chart and that’s exactly what we’re seeing. That’s it for my thoughts. Let me know what I may have missed.
