2024 Heartland Sports SEC Power Rankings: Week 4

As the season continues to unfold, the competition intensifies. We’re witnessing an early battle for supremacy, with Georgia and Texas currently tied at the top of our power rankings. Saturday’s matchup between the Bulldogs and Alabama will likely determine the sole leader going forward.

While there isn’t consensus at the top of our rankings, there certainly is on the bottom. Mississippi State has consistently underperformed and remains our lowest-ranked team in the conference by a unanimous decision.

Our rankings are experiencing significant movement week to week, with more than half of the teams changing positions. This fluidity highlights the competitiveness of the SEC and sets the potential for upsets.

Individual Thoughts

Caleb

1. Ole Miss | Ole Miss flexed what this team is about Saturday. They showed they are 100% in the fight for the SEC championship and the National Championship.

2. Texas | Texas looked good yet again, but we shall see how this Ewers injury plays out.

3. Alabama | Alabama looks really good on the road against Wisconsin. They’ve got Georgia next week. We will really see what this team is all about.

4. Georgia

5. Missouri

6. Tennessee

7. Oklahoma

8. Texas A&M

9. LSU

10. Auburn

11. Florida

12. South Carolina

13. Arkansas

14. Kentucky

15. Vanderbilt | While Vandy had a good start to the season the Vandy we all know came out Saturday.

16. Mississippi State | More cowbell needed? Mississippi State looked like one of the worst college football teams Saturday.

Craig

1. Georgia | The Bulldogs faced a scare this week against Kentucky. Sometimes in this conference you just have to find a way to win on the road. It didn’t look pretty, but Georgia is 3-0.

2. Texas | Arch Manning took over in week three for an injured Quinn Ewers. The Longhorns didn’t skip a beat and continued to look like one of the best teams in the entire country.

3. Tennessee | I’m the only one here that is this high on Tennessee. I think they’re legit. We will find out this week as they travel to Oklahoma for their first conference matchup of the season.

4. Alabama

5. Ole Miss

6. Oklahoma

7. Missouri

8. LSU

9. Texas A&M

10. South Carolina

11. Arkansas

12. Vanderbilt

13. Kentucky

14. Auburn

15. Florida | Florida was held scoreless in the first half of their 13 point loss to Texas A&M. The good news is they play Mississippi State this week which gives them a great opportunity to bounce back.

16. Mississippi State | Getting throttled at home by Toledo for your second loss in a row is never what you want to see. It’s going to be a long season for Mississippi State.

Zack

Matt

1. Georgia | Despite being outplayed in the first half, the Bulldogs managed to keep Kentucky’s offense in check, holding them to field goals. Their persistence paid off, as they eventually found their rhythm and secured a hard-fought victory after two dominant performances.

2. Alabama | Alabama: After posting a negative-3 turnover margin and committing 13 penalties against USF, Alabama had a plus-2 turnover margin and was penalized just four times Saturday.

3. Ole Miss | The Rebels posted 649 total yards of offense and 40 points against Wake Forest.

4. Texas

5. Oklahoma

6. Tennessee

7. Missouri

8. LSU

9. Texas A&M

10. Auburn

11. Arkansas

12. South Carolina

13. Vanderbilt

14. Kentucky

15. Florida | This could be the end for Billy Napier in Gainesville.

16. Mississippi State | The Bulldogs have a shot to climb out of the basement when they host Florida on Saturday.

Zack

1. Texas | The Longhorns continue to look dominant, and after a weak performance from Georgia, Texas has claimed the top spot in not only the SEC but the nation. They have some breezy matchups until they meet Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry on October 12.

2. Alabama | The Crimson Tide dominated Wisconsin this weekend, looking ready for their big meeting with Georgia on Saturday.

3. Georgia | The Bulldogs didn’t much look like contenders on Saturday against Kentucky. Georgia struggled, trailing for much of the game, and now they travel to Bama to take on the Crimson Tide.

4. Ole Miss

5. Missouri

6. Tennessee

7. Oklahoma

8. LSU

9. South Carolina

10. Auburn

11. Kentucky

12. Texas A&M

13. Florida

14. Arkansas

15. Vanderbilt | Well, the good times for Vandy came to an abrupt halt on Saturday after an embarrassing loss to Georgia State. It doesn’t get any easier for the Commodores as they travel to Missouri to take on the Tigers before hosting Alabama the next week.

16. Mississippi State | The Bulldogs kick off conference play this weekend, and looking at their schedule, they might not get a win. First up is a home test against Florida, who wants to move to 2-2 after losing to Texas A&M.
