Top 10 Opponent & ESPN GameDay! Here’s How Oklahoma Typically Fares With Those Two Factors In Norman

The SEC is upon us, and Oklahoma has a whopper of a game to get things rolling in the new conference. Saturday’s matchup against Tennessee marks Oklahoma’s first game against a top-10 opponent in Norman since 2017. The Sooners have a solid record against top-ranked teams at home, going 5-3 since the start of the 2000 season. However, the Volunteers pose a significant challenge as the highest-rated opponent to visit Norman since Ohio State in 2016. The Buckeyes won that game 45-24.

The excitement surrounding this game is further amplified by the return of ESPN College GameDay to Norman. The show will be originating from Norman for the ninth time and first since 2020. This marks Oklahoma’s 41st overall appearance on the show. The Sooners have a 6-2 record in Norman and a 27-13 overall record in contests when GameDay is involved.

Oklahoma and Tennessee have a history, dating back to their first meeting in 1938. The Sooners hold the edge in the series, winning three out of four matchups. The most recent meeting between the two teams was in 2015, when Oklahoma pulled off a dramatic 31-24 double-overtime victory on the road.
