The Oklahoma Sooners and South Carolina Gamecocks are both dealing with injuries heading into their matchup on Saturday. Several key players for both teams are listed as out or questionable, but for the Sooners there’s actually some hope found in this week’s injury report.
South Carolina Injury Report:
- Out: WR Jared Brown, DB Jalewis Solomon, DB Kelvin Hunter, OL Jakai Moore, DT DeAndre Jules
- Probable: WR Payton Mangrum
Oklahoma Injury Report:
- Out: WR Jayden Gibson, WR Jalil Farooq, WR Nic Anderson, WR Andrel Anthony, DB Gentry Williams, DB Kendel Dolby, OL Geirean Hatchett
- Doubtful: TE Kade McIntyre, RB Sam Franklin
- Questionable: WR Deion Burks
Wide receiver Deion Burks, who has been sidelined for several games, is making progress and actually could be available Saturday. Seeing him only listed as questionable was actually an encouragement for a fanbase that desperately wants more from the offense. Brent Venables expressed optimism earlier in the week about Burks’ recovery, stating that he is working hard to be ready for the game.
“Deion’s hoping to play this week,” Venables said. He wants to defy all odds and be ready to play this week. He got up to 80% of his max volume yesterday, and these guys are working relentlessly to put themselves in a position to help us this year.”
Burks’ return would be a significant boost to the Sooners’ offense, as he is a reliable playmaker who can create big plays after the catch. The Sooners currently rank 123 nationally in passing offense, with just an average of 165.7 yards per game.
Another positive development is the return of defensive tackle David Stone. Stone, a talented freshman, was removed from the injury report and is expected to be available for the game. His presence will be helpful on a Sooners’ defensive line that will be focused on shutting down South Carolina’s rushing attack.
