OKC Thunder Set Season Highs in Points, Rebounds in Rout of Kings

In a commanding performance on Saturday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder secured a decisive 144-110 victory over the Sacramento Kings at the Paycom Center. The game was highlighted by Aaron Wiggins’ career-best performance, stepping up in the absence of All-Star Jalen Williams, who was sidelined due to a right wrist sprain.

Starting in place of the injured Williams, Wiggins seized the opportunity to shine. He delivered a stellar performance, recording career highs with 41 points and 14 rebounds. Wiggins’ previous personal bests were 28 points during his rookie season in 2021-22 and 10 rebounds in the following season. His impressive display was met with enthusiastic chants of “Aaron Wiggins” from the home crowd, a testament to his impact on the game.

Dominant First Half Sets the Tone

The Thunder came out with a strong offensive push, amassing 82 points by halftime—a season high for the team and just one point shy of their franchise record for points in a half. This early dominance established a lead that the Kings struggled to overcome.

Contributions from Key Players

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued his impressive season, contributing 29 points and nine assists before resting in the fourth quarter with the game well in hand. Luguentz Dort added 20 points and eight rebounds, showcasing the Thunder’s depth and balanced attack. The team’s offensive efficiency was evident as they connected on 19 three-pointers, with Wiggins and Dort each accounting for six.

Rebounding Supremacy

Oklahoma City dominated the glass, setting a franchise record with 70 rebounds compared to Sacramento’s 37. This overwhelming advantage was a collective effort, with Isaiah Hartenstein and Wiggins each grabbing 14 rebounds, Jaylin Williams securing 13, and Kenrich Williams adding 11. The Thunder’s control of the boards limited the Kings’ second-chance opportunities and fueled their transition game.

Defensive Efforts Contain Kings’ Stars

The Thunder’s defense effectively contained Sacramento’s key players. Domantas Sabonis, who leads the league with an average of 14.5 rebounds per game, was held to just seven rebounds and 16 points. De’Aaron Fox led the Kings with 20 points, but the Thunder’s defensive schemes prevented any significant momentum shifts.

Injury Updates

The game was not without its setbacks for Oklahoma City. Cason Wallace exited late in the first quarter due to a right shoulder strain and did not return. This adds to the Thunder’s injury concerns, with Alex Caruso already missing two games due to a left ankle sprain.

Looking Ahead

With this victory, the Thunder improved their record to 38-9 and will continue their four-game homestand by hosting the Milwaukee Bucks at 7 p.m. on Monday.
