OU Baseball’s Best Start Since 2019: What’s Next for the Sooners?

The Oklahoma Sooners baseball team is off to a scorching start in 2025, boasting a perfect 6-0 record after a championship-winning performance at the Round Rock Classic. Now ranked No. 16 in the latest D1Baseball poll, OU kicks off a five-game homestand, beginning with a two-game series against Texas Southern on February 25-26. Both games are set for a 4 p.m. CT first pitch and will be broadcast on SECN+ and radio via 99.3 FM/1400 AM The REF in Oklahoma or The Varsity app nationwide.

Red-Hot Sooners Make Statement in Round Rock Classic

Oklahoma made waves over the weekend with three impressive victories, edging out Minnesota (3-2), taking down No. 7 Oregon State (8-4), and securing a thrilling 5-4 win over No. 2 Virginia in extra innings. This marks the program’s best start since 2019 and its highest-ranked win since defeating No. 1 Arkansas in 2021. Additionally, the Sooners achieved back-to-back top-10 wins for the first time since their series against Texas Tech in 2022.

Soaring in the Rankings

OU’s stellar start has propelled them into the national spotlight. The Sooners surged to No. 16 in the D1Baseball rankings—the largest jump of any team this week. They climbed even higher in the Perfect Game USA poll, landing at No. 12. Meanwhile, Oklahoma sits at No. 25 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll and is receiving votes in the NCBWA rankings.

Series History: Sooners vs. Texas Southern

Oklahoma and Texas Southern will meet for the eighth and ninth time in program history, with the Sooners holding a flawless 7-0 record against the Tigers. OU looks to extend that streak while continuing its early-season momentum at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

Big-Time Performances Against Ranked Opponents

With a 2-0 record against top-ranked teams in 2025, Oklahoma is proving its ability to compete at the highest level. This follows a 2024 campaign where the Sooners finished 4-1 against ranked opponents, with all four wins coming against top-15 teams.

As Oklahoma gears up for its home series against Texas Southern, the Sooners are riding high on their early success. With national rankings on the rise and a deep, talented roster, OU is positioning itself as a team to watch in the 2025 college baseball season.
