Oklahoma Softball Keeps Rolling with Another Run-Rule Win

Oklahoma Softball once again proved why it remains one of the most dominant programs in the country with a 12-4 run-rule victory over St. Thomas on Thursday night. Even with a last-minute schedule change and head coach Patty Gasso absent due to a prior engagement, the Sooners handled business with ease, improving to 33-3 on the season.

Offensive Explosion Led by Sanders

The clear standout performance came from first baseman Cydney Sanders, who launched two home runs in the same inning to fuel Oklahoma’s eight-run second frame. Her performance wasn’t just a personal milestone; it was a reflection of how dangerous this Sooners lineup is from top to bottom. Ten different players recorded a hit in the game, showcasing the team’s incredible depth.

Oklahoma’s offense wasn’t reliant on just one or two players—contributions came from across the board. Sydney Barker and Corri Hicks each went deep in the fourth inning, and Kasidi Pickering extended her hitting streak to 12 games. This kind of lineup versatility makes it nearly impossible for opposing teams to contain the Sooners for an entire game.

Steady Pitching Keeps OU in Control

While Oklahoma’s bats made the headlines, the pitching staff did its job well enough to keep the Tommies from making it a competitive contest. Kierston Deal picked up her eighth win of the season, while Isabella Smith and Paytn Monticelli provided relief to close things out. There were some minor hiccups—OU surrendered four runs, including a late rally attempt from St. Thomas—but overall, the pitching was effective enough to secure another comfortable victory.

No Gasso? No Problem.

With Patty Gasso away for the night, associate head coach JT Gasso stepped in and kept the ship sailing smoothly. The Sooners showed no signs of distraction or disruption, emphasizing how well-prepared and disciplined this team is.

Gasso even joked about the seamless transition, recalling a previous time he had to take over third base coaching duties. It’s clear that the culture of Oklahoma Softball runs deep, and this team is built to win regardless of who is making the calls from the dugout.

Championship Pedigree on Display

This win wasn’t just another notch in the win column; it was a statement. Oklahoma didn’t just beat St. Thomas—it overpowered them. The ability to make in-game adjustments, capitalize on scoring opportunities, and maintain control even when facing a bit of adversity makes this team a serious national title contender.

With the Okana Invitational continuing and UCF up next, the Sooners look primed to keep rolling. If they continue playing at this level, it’s hard to see many teams standing in their way.

What’s Next?

Oklahoma faces UCF on Friday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+, and given how the Sooners have played recently, it’s another opportunity to see their dominance in action.
