Oklahoma continues national dominance with talent-rich roster ahead of postseason push
As Oklahoma softball prepares for another deep postseason run, the accolades continue to stack up for a program built on excellence. On Thursday, May 15, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2025 All-Region Teams, and the Sooners once again found themselves at the top of the pack.
Oklahoma was honored with a region-best eight selections to the NFCA All-Midwest Region Team, two more than any other program. The eight honorees tie a program record, marking the sixth time in Sooner history that the team has hit that benchmark—another testament to head coach Patty Gasso’s sustained dominance and the depth of talent she has assembled in Norman.
The All-Region teams, divided into first, second, and third tiers, recognize the top players in each of the NFCA’s 10 designated regions. For Oklahoma, four players received first-team honors, while two earned spots on the second team and another pair rounded out the third team.
First-Team Standouts
At the top of the list is senior pitcher Sam Landry, who earned her second consecutive first-team All-Region selection. After transferring from Louisiana and making an immediate impact, Landry quickly emerged as one of the premier arms in the SEC. Her 19-4 record, three SEC Pitcher of the Week awards, and First Team All-SEC recognition helped anchor Oklahoma’s rotation. Not only a force in the circle, Landry also contributed defensively, recording 47 assists to lead all pitchers in the league and secure a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team.
Joining her on the first team is freshman phenom Gabbie Garcia, whose breakout season has been marked by both consistency and clutch performances. Garcia earned her place on the list just days after blasting a walk-off, three-run home run to lift Oklahoma over Arkansas in the SEC Tournament Semifinals. Her resume includes Second Team All-SEC honors, SEC All-Defensive Team recognition, and multiple weekly awards throughout the year—including SEC Freshman of the Week and SEC Player of the Week.
Outfielder Kasidi Pickering also received first-team honors after a stellar sophomore campaign. Batting .404 with 14 home runs and 45 RBIs across 52 starts, Pickering has been one of Oklahoma’s most reliable offensive threats. Her ability to reach base and hit for power has been matched by impressive stretches, including a 16-game hitting streak and a remarkable run of reaching base safely in 15 consecutive plate appearances.
The final first-team honoree is Ella Parker, who has elevated her game in her sophomore season. Recently named to the SEC All-Tournament Team, Parker delivered key performances in the postseason, including two doubles and a home run in the conference tournament. With a .417 batting average and a hot streak that includes a current nine-game hitting streak, Parker has proven herself to be a cornerstone of Oklahoma’s lineup. This marks her second All-Region nod, after making the third team as a freshman in 2024.
Second-Team Honors
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas, Oklahoma’s dynamic third baseman, earned a spot on the All-Region Second Team and has quickly developed into a standout during her first season of game action in Norman. A First Team All-SEC selection and a member of the NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 25 list, McEnroe-Marinas exploded in conference play with 11 of her 14 home runs coming against SEC opponents. Her production and poise under pressure have made her a reliable presence at the hot corner.
Also landing on the second team is Cydney Sanders, a veteran slugger who transferred to OU after earning First Team All-American honors in 2022. Sanders brought experience and power to the Sooners’ lineup, contributing 55 career home runs and earning a place on the SEC All-Tournament Team this year. Her impact was most visible in OU’s 4-1 win over LSU in the conference tournament, where she homered and drove in three runs.
Third-Team Recognition
Infielder Ailana Agbayani made the All-Region Third Team, continuing a streak of regional recognition for the third straight season. After previous selections with BYU, Agbayani has seamlessly transitioned into Oklahoma’s lineup, becoming a defensive anchor at second base. With just one error on the season in 154 chances, she earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team and delivered key hits in clutch moments—most notably a solo homer against Arkansas in the SEC semifinals.
Rounding out the list is outfielder Abigale Dayton, a steady performer who has made her presence felt in all 52 starts this season. Dayton is hitting .314 with a team-leading 12 stolen bases, along with 43 runs scored and 28 walks. Her defensive reliability is underscored by a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, and like Agbayani, she has a knack for timely hitting—smacking a home run in her first at-bat as a Sooner and another game-tying shot against Tennessee in March.
A Tradition of Excellence
These eight selections bring Oklahoma’s all-time total to 177 NFCA All-Region honorees, with a staggering 161 coming during Patty Gasso’s legendary tenure as head coach. For Gasso, who has built the gold standard in collegiate softball, the latest wave of awards is less about individual recognition and more about the program’s consistency and championship culture.
“It’s always special to see players rewarded for their hard work and performance,” Gasso has said in the past. “But what makes it more meaningful is knowing they’re doing it while playing for each other and striving toward a common goal.”
That goal remains unchanged: win championships.
The Sooners, ranked No. 2 nationally, begin their quest for a fifth consecutive national title on Friday, May 16, when they open play in the Norman Regional against Boston University at Love’s Field. With a lineup full of decorated athletes and postseason-tested veterans, Oklahoma once again enters as a favorite to advance deep into the NCAA Tournament.
The NFCA All-American teams and individual national awards—including NFCA Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Rawlings Gold Glove—will be announced on May 28. If recent history is any indication, the Sooners could expect to hear more of their names called when those honors are revealed.
Until then, Oklahoma’s eight All-Region selections are a reminder of just how deep and dangerous this team remains as the postseason unfolds.
