The jerseys may look familiar. The stakes certainly do not.
For the first time in NCAA Tournament history, Oklahoma and Kansas will meet in postseason play Saturday afternoon at Love’s Field with a direct path to the Norman Regional championship round hanging in the balance.
On the surface, the matchup looks heavily tilted toward Oklahoma. The Sooners are the No. 3 overall national seed, winners of 24 straight games against Kansas, and owners of one of the most explosive offenses in college softball history.
But regional weekends have a way of shifting quickly.
Kansas already proved Friday it is capable of creating chaos.
Now the Jayhawks arrive in the winner’s bracket carrying confidence, momentum, and absolutely nothing to lose after downing Michigan 1-0 in an eight-inning walk-off thriller to open the regional.
That reality alone makes Saturday’s matchup far more intriguing than the seed lines might suggest.
