The most important recruiting stretch of the summer has officially begun in Norman.
While the calendar still says May, Oklahoma Football’s annual official visit season is underway, and for Brent Venables and his staff, the next several weeks could determine whether an already elite 2027 recruiting class becomes one of the best classes in program history.
The Sooners entered the weekend with 21 commitments already secured, giving Oklahoma one of the nation’s strongest foundations heading into the summer recruiting period. That early momentum has allowed Venables and his staff to be selective, focusing their attention on a handful of premium targets rather than scrambling to fill roster spots.
And make no mistake about it: this weekend is loaded with priority recruits.
Nine uncommitted prospects arrived in Norman for official visits between May 29-31, joining seven current commitments who are serving as peer recruiters throughout the weekend. The strategy is simple. Show recruits what Oklahoma has built, surround them with future teammates, and create enough momentum to carry through June.
Whether that approach results in immediate commitments remains to be seen. But there is little doubt this weekend has the potential to dramatically impact the trajectory of Oklahoma’s 2027 class.
