Oklahoma Softball Transfer Portal Primer: What Every Sooner Fan Needs to Know Before Monday’s Frenzied Opening

For more than a decade, the transfer portal has often been a luxury for Oklahoma softball.

This year, it feels like a necessity.

Not because the Sooners are rebuilding. Far from it.

But after a stunning Super Regional exit at the hands of Mississippi State ended Oklahoma’s streak of nine consecutive Women’s College World Series appearances, head coach Patty Gasso enters an offseason unlike any she has faced in recent memory. The dynasty remains intact. The talent remains elite. Yet for the first time in years, there are obvious roster questions that need answers.

That makes Monday, June 8, one of the most important dates of the offseason.

The NCAA’s undergraduate transfer portal officially opens Monday and remains open for just 15 days before closing on June 22. In that short window, Oklahoma will attempt to address several specific needs while simultaneously protecting a roster that still has national championship aspirations.

Here is everything Oklahoma fans should know as the portal opens.
