2016 Oklahoma Sooners Football Countdown To Kickoff | 6 Days!

Baker Mayfield is back! Oklahoma’s Heisman candidate will not only take to the field for his second season with the Sooners but, thanks to a pardon from the conference, he’s back for just his junior year with another year of eligibility still to come. The question is, will he use that extra year. My feeling is that yes, he absolutely will.

Mayfield has the ability to become extremely elusive while keeping his eyes downfield, he’s a bit of a gambler but also possesses uncanny accuracy and his arm strength seems to be increasing. He could exit OU after a successful junior campaign but he could also benefit greatly from returning for a senior season. In addition to that, Mayfield seems to love the college experience and the Sooners should be a team loaded with top talent over the next two seasons. Why wouldn’t you want to stay and be a part of that?

Barring a lock to be a first-round pick (unfortunately Mayfield won’t get graded as such) Oklahoma fans will get to enjoy two more seasons of Shake-N-Bake. The 2015 season brought 3,700 passing yards, 405 rushing yards, and 43 combined touchdowns. A second year for both him and Lincoln Riley is going to be a whole lot of fun!
