Oklahoma’s softball team continues to play on the road and continues to dominate from the pitching circle. In a game that was shortened, due to the run-rule, the Sooners used a trio of freshmen pitchers to hold UIW scoreless and allowed just one hit.

Freshman Maria Lopez drew the start and threw 2.1 innings, fanning two of the seven batters faced. She was relieved by Melanie Olmos in the third. Olmos allowed Incarnate Word’s lone hit of the game but was also received credit for the win. Nicole Mendes closed the game out by striking out two of the eight batters that she faced over the final 1.2 innings.

The Sooners exploded offensively, plating eleven runs in a wild first inning. A run in the second, and two more in the third completed Oklahoma’s best offensive outing of the season and ended the game in five innings.

Nicole Pendley and Fale Aviu both went yard as OU recorded 12 RBI and 14 hits to go along with their fourteen runs.

Up next for the 4th ranked Sooners (3-2) is Ole Miss on Friday afternoon.
